When we moved into our old house on post in Georgia, I bought some little plates and a stand from Kirkland’s. They worked in our old kitchen but I knew they wouldn’t work in our new kitchen once we moved. I thought about taking them to Goodwill but I decided to hang on to them and see if and how I could transform them.
Here they are, shortly before I painted them. Ask any of my eighth graders from this past school year…I HATE the font Comic Sans. Hate isn’t even a strong enough word…it should be eliminated from all MS programs! (Apparently I’m not alone)
(Photos Deleted)
I took my Valspar Porcelain White to them and banished all that evil Comic Sans.
Then I took some “Family” rub-ons from my old days as a scrapbooker and added some lovely words that mean a lot to us, put the plates back in the plate holder and hung it in the kitchen.
If you can’t read them, they say: “Love One Another”, “Family”, “Togetherness”, and “Cherish the Moment”. I’m jazzed about how they turned out! Whatcha think?

Those looks SO great! Rub-ons are one of my favorite art/craft supplies in the whole world because they’re so versatile.
(PS–I’m with you on hating Comic Sans..it’s nothing less than a crime against typography! LOL)

So cool! And I had never heard of Rub-ons…I’ll have to look into that.

Wow! Great job, Tara! And probably a lot cheaper (not to mention that great, “I did it myself!” feeling) than buying new ones…PLUS they’re one of a kind AND personal.
And I’m right there with you on the comic sans loathing…least favorite font, hands’ down!

Neato Tara! I love the black and white look. You really transformed them and only had to buy the paint (but I’m guessing you already had the paint on hand too). Aren’t you glad you didn’t send them to Goodwill? You’re good at thinking outside the box 🙂

Fantabulous! And, I once had a coworker who sent an email about a coworker’s death in Comic Sans. Don’t even get me started on the emotions of typography.

Well, what a transformation! I don’t think I would have ever thought to spray paint these little plates. I love it! Love how you placed the rub ons there too! I have a similar set of these plates and the same plate holder I found at Kirklands! 🙂
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂

Ha! Laughing about the hate of Comic Sans – Me too! When I receive emails from people written in that font, I really have to concentrate on being a good reader, rather than a font snob! :0
Anyway, the plate re-do looks FANTASTIC!

I like Comic Sans but have to admit that the plates needed a makeover and you did a great job!

In defense of Comic sans, it is a great font for learning. Many people have difficulties in reading with the hats and tails on other fonts that Comic sans lacks. I’m a teacher and I use comic sans almost exclusively in my classroom for teacher made materials.
I do like what you did with the plates.
