A little bit about me
This is a blog from my living room in San Antonio, Texas. I love dining out, traveling, watching Aggie athletics (particularly football & baseball), reading, crafting, shopping, and hanging out with Aidan and my husband, Ryan.
A little bit more about me
We’re originally from Texas, but since Ryan joined the Army 6 years ago, we’ve been hopping around a bit. Ryan has traveled more than Aidan and I have, naturally. We were at Fort Benning, Georgia, for three years and now we’re at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. We’ll be leaving here soon…not sure we’re we’ll be going, though. Ryan will be training and will receive orders while he’s there.
I have one younger brother, who is also in the Army. What can I say…we’re a military family!! I also have a step-brother and two step-sisters. I have three gorgeous nieces, a handsome nephew, and a niece on the way this May.
I’m a huge sports fan and stay true to my Texas roots so my loyalties are with the Texas Aggies, Texans, and Astros. Being an Astros fan is a bit of an emotional roller-coaster ride but I hang onto the successes of 1986 and 2005 and try to ignore the pain of management getting rid of players like Nolan Ryan, Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman. 🙂
Most people think since Ryan and I both graduated from Texas A&M, that we met there. Actually, we didn’t (we met online when we were both in grad school). A&M is a really large school, with over 40,000 students. We likely crossed paths more than once, especially since we had a class together our freshman year and had a mutual friend.
I got my degree from A&M in history with a minor in English. While I was there (about my junior year), I rediscovered my passion for the space program. So, after getting my degree, I went to grad school and got my MA in space & exploration studies. I worked in the space industry for a while until Ryan enlisted & I decided that a career in the space industry was NOT all that portable of a career for a military wife. So, I got my teaching certification.
I’m certified to teach English, Language Arts, Reading and Social Studies in grades 4-8, English & Language Arts in grades 8-12 and technology in all grades. I have these certifications in Texas and Georgia. In Georgia, I taught technology at a small Catholic school. Unfortunately, when we got to Texas, they were firing instead of hiring teachers so I’ve been substitute teaching at an Air Force Base school district.
