Aidan’s preschool class just learned to say the Pledge of Allegiance. She loves to say it and will say it ANY time she sees an American flag (which she calls a “Pledge Allegiance Flag). I had to get a recording of it, it’s so stinkin’ cute. I decided to post it here…enjoy the cuteness!

Thank you to everyone who prayed for and sent their positive thoughts to Ryan for his PT test. Praise God, he passed! He just called me and I could immediately tell that he passed by his voice. He was so up and happier sounding than he was yesterday. He said he prayed that God would help him pass his push-ups and he did and he thanked God for helping him. Then he asked for God’s help in passing his sit-ups and he did so he thanked God again. Finally, came the run and he prayed for God’s help, that He would make his ankle strong enough and that he would get a passing time. He said he finished the run, got his time, gave it to the grader, then he said he fell to his knees, threw up, cried and thanked God for helping him pass. He said he’s never felt so thankful to God for helping him before. (He was REALLY stressing out about this run.) Praise to God for helping him achieve his goal. Thank you all for your prayers and faithfulness. I’ll definitely keep you all updated on Ryan’s progress in OCS.
I need your positive thoughts and prayers y’all. Ryan reported for OCS (Officer Candidate School) yesterday and has his first PT test tomorrow. Normally this wouldn’t be much of an issue…he’s well within height and weight limits and in very good shape. However, about a month ago he rolled his ankle during PT and got a second degree sprain. It was swollen for most of the past month and he hasn’t run at all. He pretty much has to pass this test so we need your prayers and positive thoughts sent his way tomorrow, Tuesday. He’s OK on pushups and situps, he just has to run 2 miles in 18 minutes on a pretty weak ankle. Pray that it holds up and that he passes.
I’ve never been all that good at looking at something and then creating it without a pattern. I don’t have very good (read: any) spatial reasoning skills but when I saw this adorable dress on Etsy, I had to give it a try (with the very talented creator’s approval, of course!)
I gave it a try and it actually turned out pretty good! Aidan loves it, although I have to keep her from tugging it down too far…my little exhibitionist tends to show off a little too much. 😉
She asked for 2 piggy-tails…Mama’s not so hot with getting a straight part on a wiggly 3-year old!
Last weekend my mom came to town to visit Aidan (we just happened to be here too so she saw us as well but hanging with the grandbaby was her main objective). As we were crossing the street from the parking area to go into the Atlanta airport, I saw a little girl wearing the CUTEST dress and I’m completely inspired to make Aidan something similar.
It was a black/grey chambray-type fabric. Something similar to this fabric on Ebay (which is selling for a REALLY good price right now!) Click the pic for a link to the fabric…just don’t buy it all up before I get some!

In other news…
I started cutting out an outfit for Aidan yesterday. I saw the cutest outfit at my favorite local fabric store so I bought the pattern and fabric to copy it. Either I don’t know how to lay pattern pieces out to economize the fabric usage or we didn’t account for cutting 2 backs and 2 fronts of the top and didn’t get enough. So, of course, I freakin’ ran out of fabric before I got everything cut out. Grrr…I hate that.
I am dying to start a blazer for myself. I bought a pattern (of course, I can’t remember what it was…either Butterick, Simplicty or McCall’s) and fabric (a gorgeous brown velveteen) last year and now I finally feel confident in my skills to start it for myself. I’ve set in sleeves before so I don’t think I’ll have an issue with that. My mom cautioned me with the velvet because it has a nap, she said it’s harder to sew. Does anyone have any tips for that?
Man does this video make me homesick for Texas. It’s been over 8 months since I’ve been home and it’s starting to get to me.
Yep, we have some weird named Texas cities. And I’ve been to or near pretty much everyone in that song. 🙂

My latest treasure trove of thrifty goodies. (Photos Deleted)
Antique green glass insulator (I can’t resist green glass!)
Detail of the star on the side
Hand-pieced quilt square. I’m not sure what I should do with this. I think it’s too delicate to make into a pillow…I might frame it. Any ideas?
Detail of the hand-stitching.
Old sewing goodies: jumper pattern, buttons to cover, “iron-on embroidery” patch.

Adorable sleeping bag for Aidan. Do you know how hard it is to find a sleeping bag for little girls that isn’t covered from head to toe in licensed characters? I saw this goodie and had to get it, even though she’s a little young to use it (plus it was only $4.50).
I also got a vintage sheet with pretty trim and a shower curtain with a ruffle on it to use as fabric (but I didn’t get pics of those). Happy Thrifting!
